Desperately hoping reincarnation is real...

Y’know, I figure it’s past time I do an intro post for any newcomers who end up stumbling across my blog, so here ya go :P

(Quick disclaimer: picture is not mine, this was done by my good friend, @artist-ssalem)

Hey there, stranger! Name’s Rhys, I’m just your local dorky womanchild, the mun behind @ravensroleplays and the author behind @myth-city-comic

I’m into cartoons, video games (well, namely Five Nights at Freddy’s, Bendy and the Ink Machine, A Hat in Time, and Don’t Starve XD), animals, especially bats and wolves, being out in nature, reading and writing stories, and doing art. As I’ve said above, I’m working on a webcomic, Myth City, and have another story, Oasis to Oakwood, that I’m hoping to do at some point. My favorite cartoon is Gravity Falls, my favorite drink is Dr. Pepper, and my birthday is May 21 :P

DNI if you’re a literal Nazi, pedophile, ‘pro-shipper’ (more like pro-sh*tter, in my opinion), racist, sexist, or just bigoted and hateful in any way.

Also, if at some point I have said/done something to offend or upset you, please let me know. You are allowed to unfollow, or even block me, if you feel you have to, but I am only human, and I am bound to make mistakes. If possible, I would prefer you to talk to me privately and let me know how I have offended you, rather than just ghosting me outright.

Otherwise, don’t be intimidated by me! Feel free to stop on by, stay as long as you’d like, and don’t be afraid to ask me any questions you have about my AUs, original story/stories, or just about/to me in general!

Off now.

Today had its ups and downs.

On the one hand, I was able to finish inking, and then color, the drawing I’d started earlier in the week, so I’m pretty proud of myself for that. I honestly had a pretty relaxing morning…TBH I’m just kind of mad because I didn’t sleep well last night.

At least work went well.

Well, I have tomorrow off, so, outside of volunteer work at church, I have the whole day off :P

I’ll see you guys when I see you.

But did you know there's a theory that the Dracorex, Stymoloch, and Pachycepholosaurus dinosaurs were all the same dinosaur in three different growth stages?

Yeah, it’s pretty interesting, isn’t it?

The basic idea, for those who don’t know, concerns Pachycephalosaurus - that guy with the domed skull.

There are two similar species known from the same formations we get Pachycephalosaurus specimans from, Stygimoloch and Dracorex. They’re both known only from juvenile skull fragments, and were seen as separate species for a while because their heads look different, with spiky growths instead of the dome. But there’s a theory - which I personally think holds weight - that Stygimoloch and Dracorex are simply juvenile specimens of Pachycephalosaurus, and the spines on their skulls are just juvenile morphology.

I think this theory makes a great deal of sense, in no small part becuase we only have juvenile specimens of Dracorex and Stygimoloch, and only adult specimens of Pachycephalosaurus. This may be just coincidence for Dracorex and Stygimoloch, becuase they are known only from single skulls, but Pachycephalosaurus specimans have been much more extensively collected.

This isn’t a new theory by any means, and it’s not universally accepted. The sheer scarcity of Dracorex and Stygimoloch fossils means there’s really not enough evidence to be sure, and the fact Stygimoloch comes from a different part of the formation means its differences might be down to location and it might just represent a new species of Pachycephalosaurus.

Interesting, and also part of the reason why I decided not to go into paleontology - lots of guesswork.

@fluffwolf101: it was originally proposed by Jack Horner, one of the most well-known and well-respected modern paleontologists, at a conference in 2007. You can read the 2009 paper that Horner and Mark Goodwin (another well-known paleontologist known for his work at the Hell Creek formation where these fossils were found) wrote on the topic here - I highly recommend it, it’s a super interesting read!

But yeah, it genuinely couldn’t have been proposed by more credible authors!

Adult ProTip, from a security professional: If a kid tells you, “My parents are gonna kill me / kick my ass / kick me out” for something relatively minor, don’t respond with shit like “Really? ;) that sounds a little extreme, don’t you think sweetie?” because that shit really does happen.

Instead, respond as though whatever threat they are afraid of is fully valid, and offer whatever you can do to help- ask if they believe they are in danger of being hurt in any way, and work accordingly.

If they’re overreacting, they’ll usually realize and dial it back, self-correct and begin thinking a bit more rationally.

If they’re not overreacting, and the danger is real, then they’ll need a level-headed adult in their corner, not another condescending authority figure who doesn’t believe them.

You run a café on the edge of life and death. Souls who have been departed from their bodies temporarily, such as in comas or near-death experiences, can relax in your quaint cafe for as long as they need before they can either return to their bodies or begin their journey to the afterlife.
